This activity combines fun, challenge and education in a stunning location so it really ticks all the boxes for those interested in the great outdoors. It is also suitable for those who do not necessarily want to push their adrenaline limits to the max but still want to be outdoors, active and experiencing something different. Patience, accuracy and awareness of your environment are key to orienteering. What is involved:Working in pairs or teams you will receive a map and will be instructed in basic map reading skills by Killary's highly experienced instructors. Learning to orientate yourself, identifying landscape features, estimating the gradient of the land you will be crossing among other skills will all be important. You will then have to make your way unaided from marker to marker in the shortest time possible and of course without getting lost! The fastest team back to base with all of the correct markers recorded will be the winning team.
Who is Orienteering suitable for:Orienteering is an activity best suited to teams, groups, families or work colleagues who want to have fun, get to know each other better in a new environment or simply want to experience the outdoors in an educational way.
What to bring:You do not need any specialised clothing or equipment however we do recommend that you dress for the weather in the west of Ireland which you may have heard can boast 4 seasons in one day! We would also advise you to wear older clothes as there is some mud involved in this activity and sturdy walking shoes or boots are also a good idea.
To book and for further information:To find out more or to make a booking for orienteering contact us on 095 43411 or at adventure@killary.com. Orienteering can be done in combination with our other land based adventure activities or on its own, as part of a half day or full day programme and it is priced accordingly.
