Windsurfing

Windsurfing has only been a sport since 1948 but it has become hugely popular in that time. Combining aspects of both sailing and wave-surfing it requires strength, daring and skill. Whether they are surfing giant waves or travelling at speed across flat water, windsurfers are truely in tune with the elements! Once you get up on that board and take off for the first time you too will be hooked.

What is involved:

Killary Fjord is an ideal location for your first attempts at this sport as the sheltered harbour ensures you have control over you equipment and can learn in a safe environment. For the more experienced windsurfer heading away from the shore into the more exposed waters across the fjord there is plenty of exhilaration to be had. Depending on your existing level of ability our instructors will inform you about the equipment and will show you how to manoeuvre and control your board and sail. You will then have the opportunity to try your hand on the open water!

Equipment:

We will provide all of the equipment that you require to get the most out of your windsurfing session at Killary. Boards and sails have changed considerably over the years but at Killary we have kept up-to-date with the latest developments and can offer you the equipment that best suits your level of ability and your size. We will also supply you with a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet so all you will need to bring along are your swimsuit and an old pair of shoes to wear in the water.
