Instructor Training Course

Killary Adventure is one of Ireland’s longest running and best known adventure centres. It was the creation of Jamie Young, a well known Irish explorer and his wife Mary. Running now for nearly 30 years, there could not be a more experienced or friendly crew to help you on your way.

The Instructor Training Course is for people who want to be employed in the outdoors and who need to gain the skills and qualifications to do so. By participating in the course you will kick start your career as an outdoor instructor and gain a broad base of technical outdoor skills, leading to nationally recognised qualifications, NGB's. You do not need to have previous experience in any of the activities but you do need a basic level of fitness, have a love for being in the outdoors and be motivated to work intensively with our instructors.

We particularly welcome applications from people who are looking for a change of direction in their working life. You will need to be 18 years or over to participate.  In addition to the practical coaching you receive during the programme our staff will work directly with you to develop your soft skills, discuss your progress, identify your strengths and weaknesses and also give you the advice needed for gaining employment within the outdoor industry. Speaking of gaining employment we are very proud that approximatelyt 70% of the current instructing staff at Killary Adventure Centre started their careers on one of our instrucor Training Courses!

If you are interested in shorter duration courses and have a group of 4 people or more, Killary can organise courses in any of the following dsiciplines:

kayaking, windsurfing, mountain skills, rockclimbing, powerboating, sailing and first aid.
