How to apply

If you have any questions or for more information contact us at training@killary.com. To apply all you need to do is send in the application form with a deposit. It is first come first served, all we ask from you

is that you have a keen interest in the outdoors.  Places are limited!

 

We invite you to come and look around our centre, meet some of the team you will be working with and have a look at the location you will be based at for the next four months.  To make an appointment to come to the centre contact us either via email or phone and we will arrange a suitable time.

How long is the course?

The course is 27 weeks long.  This includes 4 weeks work experience towards the end of the course and two weeks holidays at Christmas

We are running a training programme from Sept 2012, but this is full, so if you are interested in our Instructor training course, we would hope to have one in place for 2013 but this is based on interest in the course and places secured by the end of July 2013.

 

Start: October 21st 2013

End: April 2014

Price

This is a full time course with training taking place 5 days a week for the duration of the course.

 

The cost of the course includes:

 

  • All tuition from professional instructors
  • Accommodation for the entire course (including weekends if you wish to stay)
  • The use of all specialist equipment and gear
  • Transport for all off-site aspects of the course (except flights to Spain)

The cost for all of the above is €260 per week for the 25 weeks of the course

 

Total course price: € 6500

 

Final date for receipt of completed application form and €500 booking deposit is Fri 14th Sept 2012.

Funding

We would recommend that you check with your local Citizens Advice Bureau, Social Welfare Office and/or County Council to find out if there is funding available in your local area to help with the course fees and other expenses.

What else will I have to pay for?

  • Registration fees for individual governing bodies and associated certificates
  • Personal gear – Hill walking boots, waterproofs etc
  • Return flights to Spain
  • Food 

Accommodation? 

The accommodation will be in the centre until the beginning of March at which time the centre becomes busy with school groups and other clients. For the remainder of the course you will be based offsite in one of the nearby villages. The accommodation is in shared dormitory's whilst in the centre and shared rooms when offsite. Food is not included in the cost of the course.  The course runs from Monday to Friday but you are welcome to stay on weekends also.

Outline

This course is structured into blocks of specific activity learning and we always operate at a progressive and attainable level allowing all participants to achieve a high personal standard within a realistic time frame. Our aim throughout is to ensure that the skills being learned are achievable for all abilities and we pride ourselves on creating a safe learning environment free from over-competition and negative peer pressure.

 

We believe in the mantra of Learning by Doing!

 

Training Days are normally started at 09:30 and are completed by 18:00 – additional time is also available to allow participants to improve on personal skill levels and all the Centre's facilities are available throughout the course for those wishing to try new and diverse sports.

The course is run on 5 days a week with most weekends free – this is usually a great time for participants to both socialise with fellow members and integrate into our great local community but – the Centre is awash with adventurous and enthusiastic staff and you will always be able to find someone who wants to either Wakeboard, Water Ski, Rock Climb, Mountain Bike in fact the list is almost endless!
 

Clothing and Equipment

All equipment will be provided with the exception of clothing and footwear and some personal specialised climbing and paddling equipment. You will need to obtain good quality clothing for the course such as gortex jacket and trousers, quality walking boots, fleeces and gloves and hats. We can advise you on equipment purchase at any time and will provide a full equipment list when you sign up to the course.

Where is the course held

For the most part of the course we will be based in beautiful Connemara but we also go on trips further afield to the likes of the Burren and Achill Island.  As well as kick-starting your career in the outdoors this course is a great way to explore some of Irelands most majestic places.


The first part of the course is based in Spain on the Costa Blanca, this is an important part of the rockclimbing phase.
