Kayak - The introduction will include basic paddle strokes, rescue skills and using the correct equipment. You will then progress onto the ICU's proficiency award scheme. Using this syllabus we will teach you the finer details of paddle strokes giving you greater control of your boat. You will also learn about planning river journeys and leadership techniques on the water.

 

Starting on Irelands only Fjord we will progress to placid rivers and small surf. From here you will progress further on to the thrill of fast moving water, rapids and waves.

 

You will be trained in kayak safety and rescue methods. This involves rescue of yourself and others in a number of water scenarios, use of throw lines, emergency first aid and dealing with casualties in a boat.
 

Mountain Skills - The Mountain Skills training aims to prepare you for the Summer Mountain Leader Award.  There is no better place to learn these skills than in the heart of Connemara.

Remote Emergency Care - This two-day course gives you the essential skills needed to handle any situation that may arise whilst working as an Outdoor Instructor.
 

Rock climbing - The Climbing will include an intensive course in sunny Spain which offers warm and dry conditions, essential for a good learning environment, to maximise your climbing skills. Whilst in Spain we will be staying in an area of the Costa Blanca close to all the mountain crags. Within Ireland your climbing will continue to develop on the crags of Connemara and The Burren. You will be taught the skills required to attend the Single Pitch Award (SPA) training course. This will include climbing technique, movement on the rock, rope work, lead climbing and abseiling.

Powerboating - Here at Killary we have an exceptional choice of powerboats.
T2 is our 200 HP, 7 metre RIB (central console). For those who are not familiar with this description it is basically a very, very fast boat!
T1 is our 100 HP, 5 metre RIB (central console) This boat has been modified for the ideal water ski and Wakeboarding session
The course is ISA National power boating course and during the two days you will cover boat preparation, handling skills, high speed manoeuvres, coastal theory and maritime rules.

 

Work Experience
You’ve learnt all the hard skills now it’s time to learn the soft skills.  The work experience is a vital part of the course which will give you the opportunity to work with groups and further improve your chance of gaining employment in the industry on completion of the course

 

Child Protection
This will take part before the work experience and prepare you for dealing with groups of varying levels of ability
