Our Transition Year Programmes at Killary have been developed by combining years of experience working with school students of all ages with the principles of our corporate training programmes.
Aims:
Teachers have told us what they want their transition year groups to achieve and we have tried to find ways of delivering these aims through our outdoor activities. Luckily outdoor adventure activities are very well suited to personal development, team work, leadership training, bonding, acceptance of diversity and stretching a person’s comfort zone – all of the elements that teachers deem important in their transition year programmes.
Encouragement:
Whether a student is struggling to conquer the rope elements of the High Ropes Challenge or trying to work up the nerve to jump for the trapeze, the encouragement of their fellow students can make the difference between succeeding and not. A simple matter of students being nice to each other can be a very important dynamic to have in any group.
Team building:
Our team activities including the Killary Challenge (navigation and problem-solving), Raft Building, High Ropes Challenge, Laser Combat Games, Turf Challenge and Orienteering are all ideal for advocating bonding, working together, appreciating others’ strengths and weaknesses and the development of leadership skills.
Moving outside the comfort zone:
The adrenaline activities including the Bungee Jump, Giant Swing, Zip Wire, Abseiling and Ringo Rides will nudge students outside of their comfort zone and teach them that some trepidation is not a bad thing and that the reward for going beyond it is really worth it.
Individual challenges/personal development:
Individual challenges of skill and strength such as Kayaking, Climbing and Archery are important for showing students the value of perseverance and the need to fail before you succeed sometimes – this is all part of the learning process.
So you see we really have put a lot of effort into how we design our transition year programmes and we would be delighted to structure your programme at Killary to meet the particular aims you and your group have identified. We have seen the results and we believe in what we do!
