Kayak Training Courses at Killary
In recent years kayaking has undergone a lot of changes, with huge improvements in boat designs and techniques. Kayaking is now more accessible, progressive and appealing to all styles and tastes.
Ireland has a huge range of waterways, and Connemara is no exception. Killary is surrounded by dramatic Sea inlets with mountainous backdrops, A range of White water rivers and tidal rapids and consistent Atlantic beaches near by.
COURSE: Introduction to Kayaking – ‘Getting Started’ - (2 Days)
This course gives you the best possible introduction to kayaking. You’ll be amazed how quickly you progress, and gain confidence. The course will cover basic skills, safety and rescues and a coastal trip along Killary Harbour (weather dependent). You will get the opportunity to paddle a range of kayaks, from general-purpose boats to specialised sea kayaks.
This course equips you with a good solid background to paddlesports, and will point you in the right direction for future progression, in this wide ranging and exciting water sport. * Option Level 1 / 2 Proficiency Award

COURSE: Kayaking skills – ‘Improving Skills’ - (2 Days)
Moving on from our Introduction to kayaking, this course will look at expanding your kayak experience to more challenging situations. Using a variety of local venues, we will introduce you to surf kayaking, sea exploration and white water (WW Oct’-March only). Training will be varied and progressive, and will deliver an all round kayaking experience.
Previous Experience – Completed Introduction to kayaking course or similar or Have Kayaked before, with basic knowledge of paddling on sheltered water. Option to take L2 proficiency Award.

COURSE: White Water, Sea and Surf– ‘Proficiency Training’ - (2 Days)
If you have tried kayaking, and want a more specialised course this is for you. Choosing to cover either, White Water, Sea or Surf Kayaking, you will look at specific skills, safety training and improve your confidence on either White Water rivers, Coastal exploration or Atlantic Surf. By the end of these courses we aim to have you well and truly hooked. * Option L3 Proficiency
Previous Experience – Completed improving skills course, or have Minimum of level 2 proficiency award or equivalent experience.
